My name is James Briggs, or just call me Jay. I’m 36, I run my own business called Must Weld Motorsport where I build race/drift cars. I’m the current head Scrutineer for Drift League GB and have been for the last 3 years going into my 4th.
I’ve been drifting on and off for the last 7 years, mostly in a stock BMW e36 and having fun with mates doing public drift days. Iv done a couple of grassroots competitions where I came 3rd and 4th but nothing serious.
This year will be my first year doing serious comp! Due to the fantastic rule book of Drift League GB, I’ve been able to go back to my roots as a Volkswagen lover and built a one-of-a-kind RWD MK1 golf! It has a BMW e36 front subframe and m50b25 engine which I’ve slapped a pulsar turbo on, so it makes 400hp. I’m running a mx5 rear subframe with a modified diff. It’s running on a stand-alone ecu with a custom XDR loom, bc coil overs, Protezione short shifter, Rusty Wrench Motorsport fuel cell swirl pot and rear-mounted radiator, AM Autos tubular manifold and down pipe.
